Caterham Round Table Annual Bonfire and Fireworks display

Saturday 1st November 2014

2014 Firework Display has new seasonal extras for a greater wow factor.

The Caterham and District Round Table aims to create a bigger seasonal bang for this year’s fireworks display at Caterham Dene Field, on Church Hill on Saturday 1st November 2014. The annual bonfire and firework display together with the hugely popular torchlight procession are one of the highlights of the year in Caterham.

Round Table Firework Officer Pete Dommett says “the display has a strong track record of attracting a significant amount of local support and last year we brought in a new firework display company (‘The Knights of Fire Fireworks’) and they really wowed the crowd.” This year they have been brought back with some new surprises and we have deliberately kept the prices family friendly so tickets purchased in advance are priced at £4.00 compared to £5.00 on the night. This is a charity fund-raising event and it is the local area that benefits as a result.

A ‘Build a guy competition’ is being held with a first prize of £50, with runners up cash prizes and free tickets for the winners. All entries must be delivered to the Dene field Caterham by 1.00pm on the day of the event.

In addition to the fireworks, the team will be providing music, popcorn, hot food and drinks, novelty glow items, mulled wine plus a small funfair for children.

Gates to the field open at 6pm. A torch lit parade will depart from the Westway Library at 6.30pm,  so people need to get there early to buy a torch. The fire will be lit at 7.15pm.  All proceeds will go to local charities.

Want to help?

Caterham Round Table is always looking for new members and our annual Bonfire and Fireworks Display is a perfect opportunity for you to come along and get involved. We'll be at Dene field from 9.00 am on the day and, if you wish, you could help with building the bonfire and setting out the field, and meet the members in casual and comfortable surroundings; the day is hard work, but also very rewarding.

Donations of materials - pallets only please!

We are always asked about wood and pallets. We are grateful for offers but we can only accept pallets. Other wood and rubbish is not only dangerous but leaves behind mess which we have to pay to get rid of. If you have any pallets please contact Glen on 01883 336633 to arrange a drop off time, please don’t just dump it. Thank you.

The Waller Pain results are in..

...and the course record (1:14) still stands, but it went mighty close this time. The morning of 8th June saw 49 competitors from near and far gather at the bottom of Waller Lane in Caterham to tackle the infamous Waller Pain. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and there was a scent of fierce (but friendly)competition in the air! Despite the heat, we saw a hard fought competition, with not one, but 2 category records broken, so well done to all who took part, and we hope to see you all again next year..

And now.... drum roll.........

jever2015-03Caterham RT European Tour 2014

Following on from the success of last years' visit to us in Caterham by members of the Jever Round Table in Germany, they've (unwisely, perhaps) returned the compliment and asked us back to their patch.

Jever, for anyone who doesn't know (Ed: & I didn't), is situated near the coast of northern Germany, approximately 1.5 hours drive north east from the border with the Netherlands.

2014Ball01Absoloutely fabulous darling.... But who are you?

The third Saturday in January once again saw around 250 masked revellers enjoying a fabulous night of glamour, gourmet food, excellent entertainment and dancing through 'til the wee small hours at our Masquerade Ball.

This year saw us change venues for the first time in quite a number of years and, to say we were a little concerned that the change may affect the dynamic of what has always been a very successful event, would be an understatement. We needn't of worried. The Felbridge Hotel proved to be a superb venue with Chef and his brigade serving up one of the best meals we've ever had and the front of house team providing service that was second to none.
