Charity, Beer & Curry... It's what Round Table's all about!
Last night (26th April) thirteen members of Caterham Round Table boarded the battle bus and set forth for Westerham. Their destination, the excellent Westerham Brewery run by Robert Wicks.
A special evening tasting had been organised on behalf of Crossroads Care and well over 100 people turned out to support the cause and taste some truly excellent ales.
'Finchcocks Original', 'Summer Perle', 'British Bulldog' and the William Willberforce 'Freedom Ale' were all on show and quaffed enthusiastically by all.
Robert, a former investment banker, started his micro brewery in a former milking shed back in 2004 with yeasts saved from Westerhams' original Black Eagle brewery. Since then, the company has gone from strength to strength winning numerous gold, silver and bronze medals for its beers and now expanding into the pub trade with three houses of its own. It's amazing to think that this tiny brewery is currently churning out the equivalent of 19000 pints each month!
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and so the (now) merry group reboarded the bus with volunteer pilot Glen (Stirling Moss) O'Dwyver at the wheel. With him at the wheel we were soon back in Caterham where a group de-camped into the Raj for a late night repast. Charity, beer & curry... the perfect Table combination. |
