Waller Pain

The Waller Pain results are in..

...and the course record (1:14) still stands, but it went mighty close this time. The morning of 8th June saw 49 competitors from near and far gather at the bottom of Waller Lane in Caterham to tackle the infamous Waller Pain. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and there was a scent of fierce (but friendly)competition in the air! Despite the heat, we saw a hard fought competition, with not one, but 2 category records broken, so well done to all who took part, and we hope to see you all again next year..

And now.... drum roll.........

waller-pain-2013-winnersWaller Pain gets it's best attendance yet!

More than 70 riders took to a very chilly hill this Sunday, many of whom had travelled quite a distance to attend. Including two of last years' winners.

It was also great to see so many tweets, blog and club website entries about the climb in the run up to the event. It's obviously gaining a lot of support amongst keen cyclists.

Proceeds from this years' event will be donated to the 'Save the Velodrome' appeal.

waller_laneStorms 'storms' Waller Pain

Kingston Wheelers rider, John Storms, was the fastest man on Caterham Round Tables' 0.31 mile long, 210 ft climb of  the Waller Lane hill in Caterham this year.

Over 40 riders took to the hill on Sunday (10/06) to test themselves against this short but gruelling challenge.

Narrowly missing Matthew Pilkingtons' course record set last year (1:14), John posted a very impressive time of 1:17 to take the 'King of the Hill' title with an average speed of 14.494 mph.

Local man, Mark Pettifor was the fastest of the fun riders with a very creditable 2:37 while in the youth category, Oliver Cliff from the Velo Club recorded a superb 1:39.
